Steven & Laura from Watlington "Overall impression of the kitchen, quality of doors, units & worktops etc: We were very impressed by the quality and value of the units, but especially loved the flexibility and choice of colours which allowed us to create a two tone effect with the base and wall units, and also the contrasting interior for the glass door wall units"

A customer from Hertfordshire "We wanted to update DIY kitchens on our remodelled kitchen and utility room.

We spent many months researching kitchens. All we knew when we started was that we wanted a bespoke, painted kitchen in a Shaker style; we were leaning towards grey. We looked around copious showrooms, had a variety of quotes and looked at friends' kitchens'. A couple of companies designed and provided plans for us; the kitchen really is fairly simple to plan as it consists of one straight run. We used the plans as the basis for our kitchen but adapted them and made them our own as the plans provided did not quite fit our requirements. A family friend had fitted a DIY kitchen, as had members of their family. We visited the DIY showroom which I would recommend (personally very interesting, as although I'm from London, my Dad was a coal miner after the Second World War, at Frickley Colliery just up the road from DIY!!! So while in the area a visit there was a necessity. The colliery is now a country park - well worth a walk around if you go up to DIY).

We also ordered a variety of doors and handles online so that we could view them in our kitchen, also worthwhile. We used the Kitchen Planner graph paper provided by DIY and spent time cutting out the paper units to place on our plan to ensure the units would fit! We also drew our own plan on graph paper (many times!!!). We eventually got a plan that would work for us and, after checks and re-checks, would fit. We consulted with a different friend regarding the colour: grey units, grey floor tiles, grey walls - would it work? Yes: she said, very modern, fifty shades of grey!! After many months of discussion our colour choice quickly became white units!!!!!!

Ordering on the DIY website was fairly straightforward, although at the time it seemed very brave especially as we had taken our own measurements; any queries we had were resolved with a phone call to DIY and our queries were always met with polite explanations and replies.

We employed a builder to fit the kitchen, appliances, tile the floor and walls and complete the electrical work.

The kitchen looks fantastic - modern, sleek, bright and spacious. The long run and the black worktop have made the kitchen look half the size again. The doors are a great quality (white Milton) and the housing units in oak are a very good contrast. The appliances were purchased elsewhere and we went for a black granite worktop - also purchased elsewhere- should have gone with DIY. Having been through the process we know what to expect and it would be easier and quicker a second time; from planning stage to completed kitchen it took us about 9 months.

We would sincerely recommend buying from DIY not only for the quality of units but also for the price. Our very first kitchen quote was 27,000. We completed the kitchen/utility room and managed a great deal more work around the house for far less than this. Our only negative comment is that our units measure 900mm wide and because of this some of the shelves have already bowed - so if choosing this width, think carefully about what will be stored where!

Thank you DIY."

Tom from Sevenoaks "We love the overall look of the kitchen. We liked the inframe style that the Milton provided and the fact that you can see the wood grain through the paint. We really wanted two different colours for the base and wall units so were really impressed with the fact we could get them sprayed any colour that we wanted. We are really happy with the way it turned out!"

Ann from Wrexham "We heard about kitchens on Internet, and were extremely pleased with the quality. Our kitchen fitter who is very experienced and is known locally as Jimmy Kitchen said the were very good quality as good as ones costing a lot more.

We added Taurus skirting board instead of a plinth and used tongue and grooved for end panels.

Everyone has admired the kitchen and can't believe how cheap it was, top quality. "

Mr Graham "DIY Kitchens were recommended by a friend, and on visiting the company's website I instantly realised I could make a healthy saving on the budget I had set aside for a new kitchen. The website is excellent and intuitive. I viewed the video tips for measuring for my new kitchen, it's certainly worth double and treble-checking your measurements, particularly when specifying decorative end panels and creating a space for an extractor hood.

I chose the Milton in-frame painted range which allowed me to specify a kitchen in exactly the colour I wanted, rather than being limited to the "off the shelf" colours. As a word of advice, I would make sure you carefully consider your choice of handles when choosing a shaker style kitchen, it's worth ordering a couple of samples before committing.

The staff have been generally very friendly and helpful, although I did find it frustrating that everything routed through one email address and sometimes getting hold of a specific person proved difficult.

Overall, I would recommend DIY Kitchens to anyone that wants the flexibility and satisfaction of designing their own kitchen. I certainly think it's been worth the extra effort."
