Painted Kitchens - Mixing Colours

Painted kitchens are a simple but stunning way to inject life and colour into your room – just follow a few basic design rules.

Painted kitchens are a great way to inject life, zest and character to your kitchen. And done well, painted kitchens can create a real designer’s stamp. When it comes to painted kitchens, it’s all about using colour in a careful and considered way.

Painted Kitchens – Get Colourful

If you’re going to go for a bright kitchen but don’t want to commit to a painted kitchen, opting for colourful accessories and wall paintings can help create the vibrancy you want. Opt for colourful, bright lights and vibrant, modern chairs. But there’s nothing that says ‘style’ as beautifully as a well painted kitchen. A splash of colour on one wall is a great way to liven up a monochrome kitchen – especially if it’s black and white. If you’re looking for understated painted kitchens, painting one wall will add warmth and character to your room. If you spend long evenings in your kitchen, opt for a soft, warm and sultry shade.

Painted Kitchens – Be Brave

If you want to make a real design statement, you have to be brave. Opting for neon green however may fit into your own personal aesthetics but if you’re designing your kitchen as part of a property development or if you’re thinking of selling soon, stay neutral. If you are planning to stay in your home for a long time, your painted kitchens can be as wild as you want!

Mix and Match?

If you want to mix and match colours in your painted kitchen, stick to blocks rather than alternating units. So if you have a set of kitchen cabinets – don’t paint one blue and the next white etc. Blocks look more stylish and are gentler on the eye. Always try and balance colour to create the right mood. If you would rather have painted kitchens with colour on the wall rather than the units, this is a safer option – it’s cheaper and easier to paint over your wall then changed your kitchen units – and you can change your kitchen as the mood takes you with a simple lick of paint.

Painted Kitchens – Balance and Tone

If you do opt for bright kitchen units that act like a slash of colour – keep the rest of the room plain and neutral so it works as a dynamic design statement. Use very bright colour sparingly with matching tones. If you want to add warmth but are scared of strong colours then painted kitchens that opt for pale yellows are a gentle way of injecting a welcoming shade.
